Commuting in Antipolo just got a lot more convenient. SM Prime Holdings and the Light Rail Transit Authority (LRTA) have officially signed a Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) to build an interconnection access bridge linking SM City Masinag directly to the LRT-2 Antipolo Station.
A Seamless Connection for Shoppers and Commuters
The bridge is designed as a safe, direct, and weather-protected pedestrian link between the station and the mall. Since the LRT-2 Antipolo Station opened, commuters have been navigating busy streets to reach nearby establishments. This new bridge addresses that long-standing need, making everyday travel smoother for those who rely on public transport or park-and-ride options.
“This interconnection access bridge enhances safety, accessibility, and efficiency for our passengers,” said Atty. Hernando Cabrera, LRTA Administrator. “It’s a clear example of how public–private collaboration can deliver practical solutions that improve passenger experience and urban mobility.”
Benefits Beyond Convenience
The bridge is not just about connecting two structures—it’s designed to improve the entire commuting experience. Engr. Junias Eusebio, Vice President for Mall Operations of SM Supermalls, explained that the project promotes inclusive mobility and walkability, benefiting commuters, senior citizens, persons with disabilities (PWDs), families, and workers.
By providing a dedicated walkway, the bridge will also:
- Reduce pedestrian spillover along Marcos Highway
- Ease traffic congestion in the surrounding area
- Encourage the use of public transport
- Support SM’s sustainability and urban mobility goals
In short, it’s a win-win for both shoppers and the wider Antipolo community.
A Strong Partnership in Action
The MOA signing ceremony brought together top officials from SM Supermalls and the LRTA, reflecting a solid collaboration between government and private sectors. Key attendees included Engr. Jomar Lua, OIC Director IV of the Rail Standards and Enforcement Office of DOTR, Ms. Evelyn P. Janeo of LRTA, and SM executives like Mr. Joaquin San Agustin and Mr. Ronald Allan Brosas.
The event highlighted the shared commitment to commuter-focused infrastructure and sustainable urban development.
Construction Timeline and What to Expect
Construction of the interconnecting bridge is set to begin in Q2 2026, with completion expected six months later. Once finished, it will offer a seamless, intuitively designed pathway that aligns with SM Supermalls’ “New Era” vision: creating spaces that are connected, convenient, and customer-centered.
Shoppers can look forward to:
- Improved pedestrian flow between the station and the mall
- Easier access for public transport users
- Enhanced convenience for daily errands and leisure trips
- A safer and more sustainable commuting experience
The bridge isn’t just about infrastructure, it’s about creating a better, smarter, and greener urban environment for the residents of Antipolo and the East Metro corridor.
A Community-Focused Future
With this bridge, SM City Masinag and the LRT-2 Antipolo Station will set a new standard for integrated urban spaces. Commuters will enjoy a seamless journey, shoppers will have more convenient access, and the community benefits from improved traffic flow and reduced carbon emissions.
It’s a small structure with a big impact, making everyday travel safer, easier, and more sustainable for everyone.
