Digital transformation is no longer happening only in major cities. Across the Philippines, regions are investing in technology to improve public services, support businesses, and create new economic opportunities. As this shift continues, reliable digital infrastructure is becoming just as essential as roads, bridges, and transportation networks.

This was one of the key messages shared by Eastern Communications during the 10th Convergence of Luzon ICT Champions Conference and Exhibit (CLICKCONEX) 2026, where the telecommunications provider highlighted how stronger connectivity can help drive regional development and long-term economic growth.

Digital Infrastructure Takes Center Stage at CLICKCONEX 2026

Held in Naga City, CLICKCONEX 2026 gathered leaders from government, business, and the technology sector to discuss how digital innovation can strengthen local economies and improve regional competitiveness.

The conference was co-organized by the National ICT Confederation of the Philippines (NICP), the Naga City Government, and the ICT Council of Bicol, creating a platform for conversations on digital transformation beyond Metro Manila.

Among the event's keynote speakers were Naga City Mayor Leni Robredo, Baguio City Mayor Benjamin Magalong, and Senators Bam Aquino and Kiko Pangilinan, alongside industry leaders who shared their perspectives on the country's digital future.

Representing Eastern Communications, Chief Revenue and Innovation Officer Edsel Paglinawan delivered a keynote presentation titled "Beyond Connectivity: Telecommunications Infrastructure as the Growth Engine of Regional Economies."

He explained that while physical infrastructure has long been used to measure a country's development, digital infrastructure has become equally important in today's connected economy.

Reliable telecommunications networks now serve as the backbone of digital services, enabling businesses to adopt new technologies, improving productivity, supporting innovation, and connecting local communities to global markets.

As more industries embrace digital transformation, access to stable and resilient connectivity is increasingly becoming a key factor in attracting investments and supporting regional economic growth.

Collaboration Is Key to Building a Connected Philippines

Paglinawan emphasized that expanding the country's digital capabilities requires close collaboration among stakeholders across the telecommunications industry.

"Whether it is building international connectivity, strengthening network resiliency, supporting hyperscaler investments, or enabling digital ecosystems, these require collaboration across the industry."

He noted that telecommunications providers are no longer simply delivering internet access. They are helping build digital ecosystems that support businesses, government services, education, healthcare, and innovation across different regions.

Telecommunications as a Growth Engine

The role of telecommunications continues to evolve alongside advances in technology.

Beyond connecting households and offices, modern digital infrastructure enables cloud computing, artificial intelligence, e-commerce, remote work, and other digital services that contribute to economic resilience.

For many provinces and emerging cities, stronger connectivity also creates opportunities to attract investors, encourage entrepreneurship, and support local industries seeking to compete in an increasingly digital economy.

According to Paglinawan, the focus has shifted from proving the importance of digital infrastructure to ensuring its benefits reach more Filipino communities.

"At Eastern Communications, we remain committed to being partners in that journey. Because beyond connectivity, our mission is to help build stronger regions, more competitive businesses, and a more digitally empowered Philippines."

Supporting Regional Digital Transformation

Eastern Communications continues to expand its portfolio of digital infrastructure and ICT solutions to help organizations modernize their operations and prepare for future technological demands.

As conversations around digital inclusion and regional competitiveness continue to grow, investments in reliable telecommunications infrastructure are expected to play an increasingly important role in shaping the country's economic future.

Events like CLICKCONEX 2026 also highlight the value of collaboration between government, industry, and technology leaders in ensuring that digital transformation extends beyond urban centers and reaches more communities across the Philippines.
