QR payment system in LRT1 warmly received by train commuters

4. Click on Pay Now. Your QR ticket will be instantly generated.
5. Scan your QR ticket using the turnstile QR scanners at LRT1 stations.

LRT1 QR tickets, which will be valid for 24 hours, may be conveniently purchased through the Maya and LRMC’s ikotMNL apps, and eventually through the beep app.

The LRT1 trains cater to passengers from Monumento to Baclaran. “Fast lane” turnstiles with QR readers are located in all LRT1 stops, including Balintawak and Roosevelt stations along EDSA.

The recently launched QR ticketing set up at LRT1 was based primarily on the QR Code Application for Transport (QCAT) format, an open-source set of specifications and documents published by AFPI that defines a QR code-based ticketing system applied to different modes of transportation. QCAT defines the structure and format of the QR Code payload of a ticket. The QR ticket is generated and issued through a mobile-based application, and is then scanned and validated as trip fare media or ticket. A backend repository captures these QR ticket transactions and are processed, cleared, and settled based on agreed business rules between the QR ticket issuer, acceptor, and transport operator.

Prior to its introduction in the rail sector, QCAT was successfully applied in both bus transport (with the BGC Bus network in Taguig) and inter-island ferry terminals (with Topline Express Ferry in Cebu). These two transport use cases replaced the manually validated paper ticketing process to ensure quicker validation and a hassle-free commuting experience.

With QR ticketing based on the QCAT format, passengers are given another cashless option for a fast, seamless, hassle-free, and convenient commuting experience.

Teching Up Iloilo City: Partnership between the city and the tech-savy UnionBank

Last April 2023, while partnering with the Iloilo Local Government to successfully mount the "Enterprise Growth through Digital Transformation" summit for Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) at the Iloilo Convention Center, UnionBank also planted the seeds of “Teching Up” Iloilo City.

In a memorandum of agreement (MOA) signing ceremony held at city Mayor Jerry Treñas’ office in Iloilo City, a partnership between the city and the tech-savy bank was forged. In attendance were UnionBank President & CEO, Edwin R Bautista, UnionBank EVP & Head of Retail Banking, Mary Joyce Gonzalez, UnionBank AVP & Visayas Region Sales Director, Romeo Gabayeron Jr, UnionBank Corporate Solutions Manager, Fiona Therese Baldeo and other key Iloilo city officials.

“Excited to announce our partnership with UnionBank and its President and CEO Edwin Bautista, a proud Ilonggo, to bring digital solutions to our city hall transactions.” said Mayor Jerry Treñas, “With This agreement, we’re adding an extra payment option for business permits and licensing, making it more convenient for everyone. Breaking barriers through digital healthcare, PH healthcare mega app mWell brings Hong Kong OFWs closer to Pinoy doctors

Importante na kayo ay laging well. Parte dito ang ang partnership ng DMW sa mWell,” said Undersecretary Allones in her message to the community leaders. Her statement supports Migrant Workers Secretary Susan Ople’s message during the partnership agreement signing ceremony with mWell in Manila. “We appreciate the partnership through the MOA that we signed with mWell so that OFWs can contact doctors who speak their language through the mWell app.”

In partnership with UnionDigital Bank, mWell provided Hong Kong migrant workers with health passes for FREE online consultation. Huawei raffled off a laptop to be delivered to the family of the chosen OFW in the Philippines and donated a tablet to the Bethune house. The tablet will be used by the migrant workers in their shelter for online consultations.
