These launches were followed by the HQ Triumph building in Quezon City on May 14 and a Spaces in PNB Makati on May 15. The addition of IWG's latest locations comes on the back of rising demand for hybrid working in the Philippines. According to PwC, 51% of Philippine respondents prefer the hybrid work model, with rising foreign investment, strong GDP numbers, and growing affluence driving this trend.

Expansive Network

The new locations bring IWG's presence in the Philippines to 31 centres, with the expectation for this number to exceed 40 by the end of the year – doubling the number of open locations compared to last year. This extensive IWG network includes locations in key cities such as Davao, Cagayan de Oro, Iloilo, Cebu, Subic, Angeles City, Baguio, and throughout the National Capital Region. With soon to be over 40 locations nationwide, IWG offers the largest network of flexible working spaces across the Philippines.

IWG’s growth strategy of the Philippines, rooted in partnership with local partners and investors, has established a robust network of hybrid working spaces that enable businesses of all sizes to thrive. Small- and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) have been particularly empowered by these flexspaces, utilizing them as launch pads to scale to regional, national, and even global levels. As a result, IWG Philippines continues to post outstanding numbers in margin growth, reinforced by network development with new openings.

Driving Inclusive Growth

By strategically expanding beyond Manila's central business districts, IWG guarantees businesses throughout the country access to premium and flexible workspaces. This not only facilitates economic development, but also cultivates a sense of empowerment among businesses.

Furthermore, with an annual investment of around USD64 million in its technology platform, IWG provides partners with access to all the company’s expertise as well as design and fit-out support. This model has enabled IWG Philippines to be one of the company's best performing markets globally.

As the trend towards hybrid working accelerates, the potential for further growth is exponential with an estimated 1.2 billion white collar workers globally and a total addressable market of more than USD2 trillion. With businesses requiring less traditional office space, enterprises will gradually pivot from conventional office occupancy in favour of flexible workspaces. Just last year, IWG welcomed over 800 new partner locations and now counts 83% of Fortune 500 companies among its customer base. Featuring more than 4,000 locations in over 120 countries, IWG provides members access to all its locations and business services via the IWG app.

Lars Wittig, Senior Vice-President, APAC NORTH, IWG commented: “We are pleased to announce the opening of these four new locations in the Philippines this month. We see immense potential in the country's hybrid work landscape and as important business hubs in the region, these latest openings are aimed at strengthening our expansion plans, while levelling up the quality of the nation's infrastructure to drive its economy into the future.

These new centres are a testament to the fact companies are realising flexible working is an enabler of employee productivity and improves sustainability, while increasing scalability so that businesses can grow faster while exerting greater control over costs.”

IWG's multi-brand expansion strategy is designed to appeal to every type of business and entrepreneur. IWG creates personal, financial, and strategic value for businesses of every size, from some of the most exciting companies and well-known organisations on the planet, to individuals and the next generation of industry leaders. All of them harness the power of flexible working to increase their productivity, efficiency, agility, and market proximity.

Protecting the growing freelancer and gig worker sector with Igloo's gadget protection

As the Philippines grows into a formidable digital economy, the increasing connectivity and digital infrastructure have empowered individuals to offer their skills and services globally. Freelancing or gig working allowed Filipinos to participate in the global workforce while contributing to the country’s economic resilience and competitiveness in the digital era.

Regional insurtech Igloo, whose mission is to provide insurance for all, believes in protecting this growing workforce segment. Payoneer’s 2022 report on the Philippine freelance market estimates that 1.5 million Filipinos are engaged in freelance work such as content creation and customer service for local and global clients.

Igloo and its partners safeguard freelancers and gig workers by protecting their essential work devices such as phones, laptops, and other electronics through its Gadget Protection and Cracked Screen Protection products.

“Freelancers provide services that go beyond geographical limitations and with the added benefits of being able to work anywhere, choose flexible times, and the opportunity to showcase and hone their skills to global clientele, it’s easy to see why it’s a growing and attractive sector,” said Roberto Vea, Commercial Lead at Igloo Philippines.

The growing freelance sector has led to the Philippine government's initiative to pass the Freelance Worker Protection Act (HB 67183) in 2023. This bill aims to provide protection and incentives to freelance workers, including night differentials and hazard pay.

“We echo the government’s call to protect freelancers and gig workers and, with our partners, we do so by protecting the tools they use as with much of these jobs happening online, it’s crucial to protect these devices as without them, they can’t work effectively or earn income. Our gadgets and electronics products are designed to protect these devices that power the freelancer economy, ensuring they can continue their work smoothly and maintain their livelihoods,” Vea explained.

Gadget Protection ensures extensive device protection–from accidental and liquid damage and the added benefit of professional repair and service at authorized centers. The product is available via GInsure and Lazada.

Cracked Screen Protection covers screen damage caused by accidental physical impact for up to 12 months. This product is designed for phones and phone accessories purchased on Shopee, providing peace of mind for users concerned about screen damage.

To date, over 15.8 million policies of these two products have been sold in the Philippines across various distribution partner platforms since January 2023.

These products empower freelance and gig workers to boost productivity, efficiency, and career growth. Gadget Protection and Phone Screen Protection are some products that highlight Igloo’s mission to make insurance accessible and beneficial for everyone, including those in the rapidly growing freelance industry.

With Wise, being paid in another currency is no longer an issue, as I can easily convert it to my local currency, or choose to hold it in USD or other currencies. Personally, it has empowered me to embrace the borderless nature of remote work while allowing me to manage currencies effortlessly.”

Addressing Market Needs

Wise's entry into the Philippine market addresses significant pain points identified in their commissioned research. The study found that 73% of Filipinos still rely on traditional platforms such as domestic banks for international transactions, often leading to higher transaction fees. Additionally, only 21% of Filipinos are aware of the hidden costs associated with exchange rate mark-ups.

Areson Cuevas, Country Manager of Wise Philippines, commented:

“We are thrilled to bring the Wise Account and Card to the Philippines. Our entry into the Philippine market is something our customers have been requesting for some time, with the ability to receive money in multiple currencies being one of the most sought-after features. With these offerings, we hope Filipinos can benefit from seamless and quick international payments, free from excessive and non-transparent fees.”

Wise is committed to expanding its capabilities in the Philippines, with plans to introduce additional funding methods such as bank transfers and e-wallet payments. This will make it easier and cheaper for customers to fund their PHP transactions and send money internationally.

The Cavite Smart Distribution Center enhances Schneider Electric’s robust distribution network across Asia Pacific, North America, Europe, and South America markets. The facility's enhanced sophisticated technologies streamline operations, boost efficiency, and significantly lower energy consumption, setting a new standard in sustainable logistics.

● Digital dashboards display operational performance in real time.

● Up to 80% of finished goods are transported inbound and outbound by a fleet of EV trucks.

All of these enhancements contribute to Schneider Electric's global sustainability commitments.

Atty.
