These programs aim to provide online information and learning opportunities to HCPs.
  2. Information Drive on Workforce Healthcare: Pfizer and PCOM will coordinate an information drive regarding workforce healthcare and protection through vaccination. Philippine venture builder seeks to help digitalize the 1 million-strong MSMEs in the country

The Philippine government has made the digitalization of micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs) a top priority to spur the growth of the Philippine economy. In the 2023-2028 Philippine Development Growth Plan, the National Economic Development Authority (NEDA) highlighted the need to provide targeted support to MSMEs in fast-tracking technology adoption, digitalization, and automation, to lead to higher productivity and greater innovation.

“One of the most important things we learned in the past few years–and especially for MSMEs– is the importance of digitalization. It not only helps businesses keep up with the times but also ensures that they’re growing at pace with the digital economy,” said Natasha Bautista, 917Ventures’ Head of Growth and Programs. “There is still a lot of room for growth when it comes to increasing digitalization in the Philippines. In contrast to countries in the region, the Philippines' digital economy currently accounts for just 9.4% of our gross domestic product, whereas Vietnam stands at 14.26%, and Malaysia at 14%.”

917Ventures, the largest venture builder in the Philippines, supports MSMEs by providing them with the tools they need at every stage of their journey so they can become digital-first businesses and ensure that they achieve long-term success and sustainability.

“Whether it's providing them with initial capital, helping them get started online, or guiding their expansion to reach a wider audience, our comprehensive suite of solutions provides them with end-to-end support to take them where they want to go,” she added. “We have, to date, been able to support more than 10,000 MSMEs across our ventures and portfolio companies and we hope to expand our solutions to the 1 million MSMEs in the Philippines and help them with digitally transforming their businesses.”

Unlocking capital with FundSpace

For entrepreneurs who want to get started or level up but don’t have the funds to do so, there is FundSpace, a loan platform that offers a suite of financing options that cater to every business's needs. On FundSpace, businesses of all sizes can take a loan for amounts as little as Php 50,000 to Php 100 million–one of the largest loan amounts available for local MSMEs.

“Securing capital is often one of the biggest hurdles to starting a business, which is why we created FundSpace–an easy and convenient platform where businesses can get the funds they need at low and flexible interest rates. Through FundSpace, they get cash quickly with its processing time that’s 12 times faster and disbursement that is eight times quicker than usual methods,” Bautista explained.

Upskilling to streamline operations with KodeGo and MemoApp

As businesses expand, the imperative to enhance skills and streamline operations becomes more evident than ever. Enter KodeGo, more than just a coding boot camp, it equips businesses with the knowledge and skills needed to thrive in a digital world. Beyond traditional coding, KodeGo offers a wide array of digital courses that are indispensable for businesses looking to scale and optimize their processes. These courses cover a spectrum of essential skills, including full-stack web development, virtual assistance, bookkeeping, and artificial intelligence.

When it comes to streamlining processes, MemoApp takes the lead as it digitizes previously manual and paper-based processes to make them more intuitive, accessible, and efficient. With its swift workflow approval system, integrated e-signature feature, and easy access to fundamental document templates, MemoApp simplifies how businesses manage their operations.

Getting started online through RUSH

For businesses that want to embrace digitalization, the first step is to get your business online. RUSH is an all-in-one eCommerce platform that takes care of the entire purchase process – from discovery to delivery – empowering merchants to easily launch, manage, and scale their online stores.

RUSH enables merchants to create their e-commerce platform, their mobile app, and access to the GCash GLife Marketplace. It also offers an end-to-end loyalty management platform so businesses can continue to delight their customers by creating relevant and rewarding experiences.

Accessing a wider audience through m360 and Inquiro

Once businesses have successfully established their online presence, the next step is to strategically connect with their target audience and guide them toward the point of purchase. To accomplish this, companies can harness the power of m360's innovative multi-platform messaging solutions. These comprehensive tools empower businesses to effectively inform and engage their customers through a seamless blend of SMS and social media channels.

m360's multi-platform messaging solutions are key to delivering vital information, timely updates, and enticing promotions to customers. With the ability to reach customers where they are most active, businesses can foster stronger connections and drive higher conversion rates.

Furthermore, understanding customer behavior and preferences is paramount for the success of any marketing campaign. Inquiro’s data-driven solutions offer a suite of services designed to provide deep insights into the current customer base and the target audience. More than just analytics, Inquiro's solutions empower businesses to not only comprehend their existing customer demographics but also unearth untapped opportunities by identifying potential audiences beyond their current reach. Inquiro also offers Credibility Scoring that helps businesses assess the risk profile of customers by automating credit-related decision-making.

“Digitalization is not a destination; it's a journey. It's not just about going online; it's about embracing processes that enable businesses to not only exist in the digital realm but thrive, compete, and innovate within it. That’s what we provide with 917Ventures–an MSME ecosystem that will handhold you through every step of every business’ digital journey,” Bautista added.

Filipino healthcare workers

Have you ever dreamt of living and working abroad? You're not the only one. The Philippines, renowned for its exceptional educational institutions and medical colleges, consistently produces top-tier healthcare professionals. Every year, hundreds of thousands of licensed Filipino healthcare workers pursue overseas employment, motivated by the prospect of career growth, higher pay, and the opportunity to work with the latest technologies in healthcare. In 2021, the Department of Health (DOH) estimated that 316,000 licensed Filipino nurses migrated overseas, marking a trend that continues to surge as more countries recognize the exceptional skills and qualities of Filipino healthcare workers. Just this year, the Department of Migrant Workers (DMW) reported that by May 2023, 4,000 nurses had already been deployed abroad, surpassing half of the country’s maximum annual allocation of 7,000. This highlights the increasing global demand for Filipino medical professionals.

However, countless others are deprived of the same opportunities. Some fall victim to fake job advertisements, while others struggle to meet the job requirements, have unverified credentials, or limited finances. Fortunately, TrueProfile.io, an internationally recognized online healthcare career hub with over one million members, is expanding its presence in the Philippines to help bridge this gap and empower Filipino healthcare workers to prepare, apply, and secure medical jobs with credible international employers.

Not Your Typical Job Site

Today, TrueProfile.io offers access to over 3,500 international jobs, allowing members to shortlist posts matching their experience and preferred employer, role, and location, and apply directly. Applicants are also encouraged to create a Digital CV and save their credentials and licenses within a Digital Wallet. TrueProfile.io goes beyond job listings, providing a range of career development services and resources. These include credential verification, licensing services, access to English language preparation, and concierge services. Members also benefit from expert career guidance to choose destinations aligned with their career aspirations. Additionally, they gain exclusive access to a dedicated virtual local community on Facebook, specifically tailored to the Filipino healthcare network. Within this community, they can exchange insights and address any concerns related to working abroad.

“TrueProfile.io serves as a unique online career hub, dedicated to supporting the professional growth of healthcare specialists. We recognize the invaluable contributions made by healthcare professionals worldwide and remain committed to empowering them by providing access to a wide range of growth opportunities. These services help professionals to secure rewarding employment opportunities that unlock their full potential. Ultimately, our mission is to enhance their quality of life and that of their loved ones." said Sunil Mudgal, Head of TrueProfile.io.

TrueProfile.io’s credential verification service confirms the authenticity of educational and professional credentials, including college degrees, professional licenses, employment records, and good standing certifications. This verification is mandatory for many overseas positions, granting verified candidates the trust of employers, often resulting in priority status, expedited application processing, and enhanced salary offers.

Mudgal further explained the significance of the Digital CV, a streamlined resume designed to enable nurses, doctors, medical technicians, and other specialists to showcase and preserve their verified credentials and skills within a Digital Wallet. This feature significantly boosts applicants' appeal to employers. They can also make their Digital CV visible to international employers and headhunters with a simple click, increasing their chances of being headhunted by recruiters and healthcare partners on the platform.

The Benefits of a Career Abroad

While pursuing a career abroad may not be for everyone, the thousands who embrace this journey often find the experience personally, financially, and professionally rewarding. Tales of hardworking nurses or medical technicians who improved their families’ financial standing or settled their debts by working in other countries are not uncommon.

"Filipino healthcare workers have also been widely recognized worldwide for their outstanding contributions to the field. AirAsia Philippines CFO to future leaders: Success is about giving, not gaining

Wednesday, October 18, 2023

AirAsia Philippines Chief Financial Officer Ray C. Berja

Success goes beyond the material things in life, and lies in the value of giving, not gaining. Thus said AirAsia Philippines Chief Financial Officer Ray C. Berja in the latest episode of Orange Chair, a social media series by UBX, the Philippines’ leading Open Finance Platform, featuring today’s top thought leaders and influencers.

“There can only be so much to gain and at the end of the day, it’s about sharing your life, and being an inspiration to others”, noted Berja, who was the pioneering Managing Director of airasia Superapp Philippines.

“I think life is all about giving, not gaining. Being successful is not about how much money there is in your bank account, or about how big or how many houses you have, or followers you have in social media. I think success is more than that. Success is the ability to help others, to empower others. It is a long and continuous pursuit in life,” he said.

Berja also advised future leaders to be hungry in “Rs:” Results and Respect.

He said budding leaders should be able to deliver on their promises to their stakeholders, while respecting each person equally – no matter their status in life. Both of which circles back to his Northstar philosophy of “giving not gaining.”

His story started in a small town in Cagayan, where his mother single handedly raised him and ran a humble karinderya to sustain their daily needs. His mother, whom Berja describes as strong and courageous, also served as an important role model in his life and guided him as he grew up.

After graduating from high school from University of St. Louis of Tuguegarao, he entered the Philippine Military Academy but eventually returned home after realizing that it was not the path he wanted to pursue. Wanting to excel in life, and with only P3,000 in his pocket, Berja was inspired to go to Manila, which called out to him as a big city full of possibilities.

In the capital, he initially worked as a striker for police officers. Eventually, as they discovered his proficiency for simple data processing tasks on the computer, they made him do clerical work until he was doing more and more important tasks for higher ranking officials. It was during this time that Berja decided he wanted to pursue a college degree. He eventually earned the title of Certified Public Accountant after passing the board exam and finishing his accountancy degree from Philippine School of Business Administration QC. Ray continued his lifelong pursuit to learn and get better; he completed his MBA from Ateneo Graduate School of Business and Regis University, Diploma in Fintech from Said Business School Oxford University, Certified Management Accountant from Australia, and Certified Financial Consultant from Canada.

Berja’s humble beginnings are integral to who he is as a person and as a professional to this day.

“It taught me a lot about hard work, commitment, and integrity in all pursuits,” he said.

To date, Berja has many awards under his name. He was named FinTech CFO of the Year and Best Aviation CFO of the Global CFO Excellence Awards in 2019 and 2020. He was also included in the inaugural list of Philippines’ Top 30 Leaders on LinkedIn in 2022 and Aspire Top 50 Finance Leaders in SEA. But while he holds his current position as one of the top executives of the world's best low-cost airline, Berja’s journey is unlike any other.

Faith has also been one of his pillars in life. Despite his many responsibilities and his continued success in management and business, he is also a published author. In 2021, he released “Faith and Grace Everyday”, a 365-day devotional walkthrough inspired by his life experiences during the pandemic and his overall journey.

“When you hit the ground so hard, you can only bounce back the highest you ever can. The trust I had in God, it empowered me and helped me do that,” Berja said.

At the end of the day, faith is a central theme in his success story. More than the spiritual aspect, he credits his achievement to his family and all the other people who supported him along the way.

“The good thing is, someone has to guide you. In my journey in life, many people have helped me. Despite my many mistakes and flaws, I had many people who believed in me,” he shared. He also advised aspiring leaders to do the same, and to always give back regardless of where their work can take them.

“You never know, they could be someone someday,” Berja said.

The pioneer brand in the outsourced payment collection system in the Philippines, CIS Bayad Center, Inc. (Bayad) has renewed its partnership with Rizal Commercial Banking Corporation (RCBC), enabling inclusive financial services through RCBC Diskartech and RCBC ATM Go.

RCBC DiskarTech is the country’s first multilingual financial inclusion application that allows users to deposit, save, withdraw, and pay bills.

With its bills payment capability powered by Bayad, RCBC DiskarTech app users will now be able to conveniently settle their bills for electric and water utilities, cable and internet, government contributions, loan payments, credit cards, school tuition fees, online shopping, insurance, and many others. Apart from this, RCBC DiskarTech App users will now also be able to deposit funds and withdraw cash through Bayad Center branches.

On the other hand, RCBC ATM Go is the country’s largest bank-agnostic, mobile-point-of-system and grassroots-oriented ATM service. By partnering with MSMEs and local businesses in low-income, rural and remote communities, RCBC emerged as the only universal private bank to have 100% coverage by servicing all 82 provinces including Geographically Isolated and Disadvantaged Areas (GIDAs).

Today, RCBC ATM Go users can conveniently have their bank transactions such as balance inquiry, withdraw, and fund transfer, by simply entering their ATM pin on the POS machine at the nearest Bayad Center in their area.

Bayad President and CEO, Lawrence Y. Ferrer shared, “Our partnership with RCBC DiskarTech and RCBC ATM Go is set to continuously amplify financial inclusion. Our goal has always been about enabling convenience and accessibility for our kababayans especially those in the underprivileged areas of the country. With this, we are proactively expanding our biller network making payments for household bills and government contributions just at the fingertips of DiskarTech App users.

RCBC Executive Vice President and Chief Innovation and Inclusion Officer Lito Villanueva also commended Bayad sharing “For the past 26 years, Bayad has been committed to serving the Filipino people through easier outsourced payment and bills payment options. At RCBC, we stand for the same thing – making digital finance more accessible and easier for everyone. Through our renewed partnership, we are optimistic that we will further the financial inclusion goals of both RCBC and the Philippine government.”
