I am MAD debuts ‘Powered by Volunteer15m,’ marks 100th outreach

Tuesday, May 6, 2025

'I am Powered by Volunteer15m' launch during MAD Meet Annual Volunteer Reunion & Anniversary Celebration in Baguio City.

I am MAD (Making A Difference) Volunteers, Inc., a volunteer-powered nonprofit, marked its 15th year with a meaningful return to Baguio City, where its journey began. The MAD Meet Annual Volunteer Reunion & Anniversary Celebration featured the launch of its newest campaign, ‘I am Powered by Volunteer15m – I am MAD: 15 Years of Heartfelt M15sion.’

This year’s theme, “I am Powered by Volunteer15m,” celebrates the unwavering spirit that fuels every outreach. It’s a tribute to the passion, commitment, and love of every volunteer who powers its mission to make a difference in the lives of Filipino children and communities.

The gathering became a full-circle moment for founders Maco Ravanzo and Christian Marx Rivero, who first conceptualized I am MAD in 2009 amid the cool breeze and pine-lined streets of Baguio. From just two passionate volunteers, the organization has since evolved into a nationwide movement with nearly 1,000 active “MADmates” dedicated to reaching underserved communities across the Philippines.

“What began as a simple dream has grown into a thriving community of changemakers,” Ravanzo shared. “Being back here with our volunteers is a powerful reminder of how far we’ve come—and the greater impact we can still create together.”

Honoring Beacons of Volunteerism and breaking new ground

As part of the celebration, I am MAD honored 15 exceptional volunteer leaders with the ‘Alab ng Puso’ Beacon of Volunteerism Award, a special tribute to their selfless contributions over the years. The awardees were Ramona Rivero, Raymark Estael, Big Jay Lagang, Jake Villanueva, Ruth DaÄŸli, Kevin Conrad Tansiongco, Erwin Dela Cruz, Mayo Ceazar Mendoza, John Martin Recio, Lester Lim, Julian Robert Obamos, Carmela Magbanua, Ymari Kristia Pascua, Ralph Laurence Manubay, and Lyman Hansel Gerona.

The event also recognized the dream team leaders behind last year’s outreach efforts with individual and group citations, celebrating their vital role in executing I am MAD’s 2024 programs and events. Other major milestones included the onboarding of 63 new volunteers and the launch of new initiatives that reached entire communities for the first time. Notably, I am MAD expanded its school outreach in Rizal and Palawan, supporting two schools per province—a first in its history.

A special highlight of the evening was a powerful cultural performance by the Uschong Cultural Ensemble, showcasing the richness of local heritage and community spirit. The celebration culminated in an emotional tribute to the founders, who were surprised with photo memorabilia and words of deep appreciation from fellow volunteers.

MAD Meet Cordillera 2025 was organized and hosted by MADmates from Rizal and made possible through the generous support of Power Mac Center / The Loop, FH Commercial, The DaÄŸli, OK Custom Gifts, The Engravers, Creative ADOBO, KFC, Fudgy and Pepper, and MMA Jr.

100th outreach to build next-gen volunteer leaders

I am MAD also celebrated a historic milestone with its 100th MAD Camp, held in the upland village of Barangay Puguil, Santol, La Union. The three-day outreach, which also served as the 2nd Builders Camp after 10 years, brought together around 40 children and dozens of volunteers for a weekend of values formation, storytelling, and community bonding at Liguay Elementary School.

Beyond outreach, the Builders Camp doubled as an immersive training ground for aspiring volunteer leaders: Aldrine Anzures, Anna Ricka Nacasabog, Beezus Abesamis, Emmanuelle Jasper Relativo, Heini Borromeo, Jahnnela Faith Bonilla, Jalilah Sarip, Lourielaine Garcia, Marco Sayas, and Michelle Del Rosario. Carefully selected from over a hundred applicants, these emerging “builders” received free training on both the technical and relational aspects of running a MAD Camp. They gained hands-on experience in program facilitation, logistics, and community engagement. Senior volunteers also played a key role, offering inspiration, mentorship, and behind-the-scenes support—equipping the next wave of changemakers with both heart and skill.

Despite the steep terrain and rough roads, volunteers arrived with full hearts and a shared mission: to uplift lives in underserved areas. Signature segments like MAD Talks Padayon created safe spaces for healing and reflection, with a message that resonated deeply: “Do it because God allows you to do it.”

Local officials, including La Union Governor Rafy Ortega-David, lauded the initiative and pledged continued support to improve access and infrastructure in remote communities like Puguil.

Join the mission to make a difference

The ‘I am Powered by Volunteer15m’ campaign invites more Filipinos to be part of a growing mission of hope, service, and change.

Registration is now open for MAD Camp, the organization’s flagship outreach volunteer program that focuses on values formation, education, and community-building for children aged 10 to 12. Camps are scheduled this year in Marinduque, Masbate, Surigao del Sur, Capiz, Zambales, Camarines Sur, Davao del Sur, and Davao Occidental. As part of the campaign launch, I am MAD is releasing a music video to inspire youth and professionals to get involved. Sign up at bit.ly/MADcamp2025reg.

Each MAD Camp is powered by BIDA Eskwela (Bigay Ayuda para sa Eskwela), a fundraising drive that provides every child with a “Bag of Dreams”—school supplies and tokens of encouragement. Support the cause by donating at bit.ly/bidadonate.

Setting a New Standard in Future-Proofing the Next Generation of Financial Advisors

Allianz Asia Pacific proudly announces the inaugural graduation of 200 agents and agency leaders from its Pinnacle Excellence Program (PEP), a first-of-its-kind initiative co-designed with INSEAD, one of the world’s leading business schools. This milestone underlines Allianz’s dedication to equipping its agency force with advanced skills and insights to navigate the evolving financial landscape, while also supporting the broader Pinnacle 2030 strategy focused on sustainable growth and enhanced client engagement.

Among the 200 agents and leaders, are nine (9) LifeChangers from Allianz PNB Life: Artemio Wapanio, Carla Joyce Garcia, Sharon Joy Ang, Dan Angelo Mamerto, Hayde Zamora, Maricris Comendador, Mariel Mendoza, John Michael Licas, and Alfredo Emmanuel Butalid.

Transformative Outcomes and Strong Agency Performance

Graduates of this first cohort demonstrated over 40% growth in productivity, and nearly 40% qualified for the Million Dollar Round Table (MDRT)—a global standard of excellence in financial advisory. These accomplishments contributed to Allianz’s robust 9M 2024 agency performance, marked by a 19% increase in New Business Value (NBV) and 8% growth in Annualised Premiums (ANP). Notably, ANP per active agent climbed by 11%, reflecting a strategic emphasis on developing a high-performing, client-focused agency network.

A Program Created "For Agents, By Agents"

PEP was developed through extensive collaboration with leading industry practitioners, including Allianz’s top-performing agents and leaders across Asia Pacific. Their on-the-ground insights shaped a specialized learning journey that addresses the key drivers of long-term success in today’s competitive market. Unlike conventional insurance training programs, PEP integrates both academic rigor and practical application through:

  • Blended Learning Delivery: Combining theoretical case studies, action-based projects, and role-playing exercises
  • Focused Skill Modules: Spanning Customer Psychology, Leadership, Communication, and Entrepreneurial Strategies.
  • Real-World Application: Equipping participants to translate classroom learnings into tangible results, from client engagement to team leadership.

“Our vision at Allianz is to build a world-class agency force that delivers exceptional service and trusted financial solutions,” said Anusha Thavarajah, Regional Chief Executive Officer, Allianz Asia Pacific. “The Pinnacle Excellence Program is a key pillar of our Pinnacle 2030 strategy, designed to elevate our agency force, enhance client engagement, and drive long-term growth. Through this program, we are not just transferring knowledge—we’re shaping the future of financial advisory by equipping our agents with the skills, tools, and mindset needed for sustainable success.”

Art Wapanio, one of the Filipino LifeChangers in the program, expressed his gratitude for being part of the experience: “I am deeply thankful to Allianz for giving me the opportunity to participate in the PEP program. Learning from a world-renowned business school broadened my perspective on both business and life. The opportunity to collaborate with passionate colleagues from different regional offices allowed us to exchange valuable ideas relevant to our work. I am eager to apply all the knowledge gained to ensure I can effectively help my clients achieve their financial goals and move closer to realizing their life aspirations.”

Elevating Industry Standards

In an environment where customer expectations continue to evolve, PEP graduates emerge as highly skilled advisors and leaders committed to safeguarding their clients’ financial well-being. By emphasizing lifelong learning, advanced financial planning expertise, and leadership development, Allianz aims to raise the bar for quality advisory services in the region.

“At INSEAD, we believe in developing responsible leaders who can navigate complexity and drive meaningful impact,” said Sameer Hasija, Dean of Executive Education and Dean of the Asia Campus at INSEAD. “Our collaboration with Allianz in the Pinnacle Excellence Program exemplifies this mission—combining world-class business education with real-world application to empower agents with the knowledge, skills, and strategic mindset needed to lead and create positive change in today’s financial landscape.”

Looking Ahead: Growth and Future Enhancements

The 200 graduates represent a diverse mix of new agents, aspiring leaders, and experienced professionals—each benefiting from PEP’s structured, hands-on approach. Building on this success, Allianz will expand the program in the coming years, allowing more agents to:

  • Access innovative learning methods tailored to an ever-changing market.
  • Develop leadership capabilities that drive team performance and client trust.
  • Contribute to sustainable growth in Asia’s dynamic financial services industry.

Allianz remains committed to creating industry-leading development pathways that prepare advisors for tomorrow’s challenges, ensuring clients receive best-in-class financial guidance well into the future.

Hapag Movement meets target one year early, helps over 120,000 families facing involuntary hunger

Sunday, April 27, 2025

The Hapag Movement, Globe’s hunger alleviation program, has reached its impact goal one year ahead of schedule, supporting over 120,000 Filipino families through the collective support of Globe and TM customers, corporate donors, and mobilization partners.

Originally targeting 100,000 families by the end of 2025, the initiative raised Php 25.37 million in 2024 alone, bringing total funds raised to Php 53 million since 2022 and enabling it to provide meals to 120,455 families facing food insecurity.

“The overwhelming support for the Hapag Movement reflects the dedication of individuals, businesses, and organizations that share our vision of addressing involuntary hunger in the Philippines. Reaching this milestone sooner than expected strengthens our resolve to expand our efforts and create lasting change,” said Yoly Crisanto, Chief Sustainability and Corporate Communications Officer at Globe.

Since its launch, the Hapag Movement has worked with the Ayala Foundation, Scholars of Sustenance, Tzu Chi Foundation, and World Vision. In 2024, it brought in three new mobilization partners—Rise Against Hunger and international organizations UN World Food Programme and Project PEARLS. This aimed to draw international attention to persistent hunger incidence in the Philippines, allowing the Hapag Movement to reach more communities in need.

The Hapag Movement has received support from over 1.1 million Globe and TM subscribers, who donated Php 11.67 million in Rewards points through the GlobeOne app. Total contributions to the program have accounted for 23% of all assistance provided through the platform.

In addition, 1,871 Globe employees took part in various Hapag Movement activities in 2024, demonstrating their commitment to making a difference.

To grow its impact, the Hapag Movement launched innovative fundraisers like the “Ibalik ang Sarap ng Pasko” holiday drive with SM’s shopper loyalty program SMAC, integrating donations into holiday shopping, and the Gourmet Giving Series, featuring fine dining fundraiser events with 12 top Metro Manila restaurants in partnership with Facebook community Fine Dining Club Philippines.

The Hapag Movement also tapped into the power of fandoms, enlisting support from Blackpink and BTS fan communities, Electronic Sports Gaming Summit gamers, ToyCon collectors, Lyropera enthusiasts, and Kwentoon artists to encourage contributions.

The program also gained invaluable support from the Rotary Club of Makati Business District, BPI Foundation, and Kumu, among others.

With its initial target surpassed, the Hapag Movement is now focused on scaling its livelihood training programs nationwide to provide families with sustainable means of supporting themselves.

The initiative is also exploring ways to contribute to the fight against child stunting, ensuring that Filipino children receive the proper nutrition they need in their critical early years.

The Hapag Movement remains committed to addressing hunger and poverty in the Philippines. Supporters can continue contributing through the GlobeOne app and GCash to help sustain and expand its impact.

Shifts in global migration trends open doors to rising global destinations for work and study abroad— British Council IELTS

Recent shifts in the global economy are leading popular Filipino migration destinations—US, UK, Canada, and Australia—to update their visa and international student policies, opening opportunities in emerging destinations. The British Council, a globally trusted and recognised provider of the International English Language Testing System (IELTS), provides personalised support to help Filipinos gain internationally recognised qualifications and explore fresh avenues for work, study, and living abroad in 2025.

Historically drawn to the "big four" destinations—the US, UK, Canada, and Australia—Filipino emigrants now face a shifting terrain. In the US, immigration restrictions have put residency papers on hold, while Australia moves to cap international student enrolments. Meanwhile, Canada is scaling back temporary foreign worker programs, and the UK is tightening student visa rules.

To help Filipinos navigate the changing migration landscape, the British Council, the organization that co-jointly runs the IELTS, provides internationally recognised credentials that open doors to a wide range of opportunities worldwide. Accepted by over 12,500 organisations across 140 countries, the British Council provides essential resources and personalised support needed to help Filipinos succeed in the IELTS exam, preparing them for success not only in the US, UK, Canada, and Australia, but also in emerging destinations across Europe, Asia, and beyond.

Where Filipinos are Headed in 2025

Several countries are now eager to attract global talent, creating new opportunities for Filipino students and professionals. Here are some of the rising destinations for 2025:

New Zealand

New Zealand, known for its thriving agriculture, healthcare, construction, and engineering sectors, is also becoming an increasingly attractive destination for Filipino workers. The country recently overhauled its Accredited Employer Work Visa regulations to make it easier for skilled foreign workers to migrate. These changes include removing restrictions on middle-income jobs, reducing experience requirements from three to two years, and introducing new seasonal worker visas.

Germany

Germany, well-renowned for its expertise in engineering, healthcare, and technology, has become a top destination for Filipino students and professionals. To strengthen its workforce, the country introduced major immigration reforms through the Skilled Labor Immigration Act, a new points-based system which evaluates applicants based on salary, educational level, and German language proficiency, making it easier to enter the country even without a job offer. The country also supports foreign students with a one year opportunity visa, allowing them to gain work experience and improve their chances of securing long-term employment.

“Moving here was a big step, but its world-class education, strong job market, and vibrant culture made it all worth it,” recounts Jay Paul Ely Tena, the 2023 IELTS Prize Winner, who recently pursued his graduate studies in the University of Erfurt. “Adjusting to the language and lifestyle had its challenges, but my IELTS preparation with the British Council gave me the confidence to communicate effectively, both in my studies and daily life,” he adds.

Spain

Spain, a global hub for education and business, is strengthening its immigration policies to boost its workforce. Foreign students pursuing higher education can receive automatic work authorization and can remain in Spain for up to 24 months post-graduation to seek employment or start a business. The country has also removed the three-year residency requirement for switching from a student to a work visa, making it easier for graduates to enter the workforce. Additionally, Spain plans to legalize 300,000 undocumented immigrants annually, granting them work and residence permits.

"Living in Spain has been an incredible experience—the welcoming culture, the balance between work and personal life, and the accessibility of everything made it feel like home," shares Jessica Badua, the 2022 IELTS Prize winner, who earned her master's degree at the Universidad de Cádiz. "The British Council IELTS was instrumental in my journey, not only helping me gain admission to my master's program but also opening doors for scholarships and opportunities that made my transition as an international student smoother and much more rewarding."

Singapore

Singapore remains a top choice for Filipino professionals. The country’s Overseas Networks and Expertise (ONE) Pass, part of the city-state’s broader strategy to attract top global talent, allows skilled professionals and entrepreneurs to live and work there for five years without employer restrictions. The country has also simplified pathways for international students to obtain permanent residency, allowing graduates to transition smoothly into the workforce.

"Many Filipinos may feel uncertain about their options due to the changing migration landscape," says Zoe Zhang, Regional Director for Exams at the British Council. "But the British Council ensures that our candidates have the tools and qualifications they need to prepare for the IELTS and help them succeed on the global stage, even outside the ‘Big 4.’"

While migration trends continue to evolve, the British Council IELTS remains committed to equipping Filipino students and professionals with the right resources and support to pursue their work, study, and living abroad dreams—empowering them to build a bright future anywhere in the world.

90,000 Bangsamoro Kids Learn Peace and Inclusion Through Animation

In a remote Bangsamoro village, children sit captivated as Isla Maganda, brings to life a world where resilience, collaboration, and problem-solving are learned alongside foundational skills. Now, 90,000 children are learning these essential skills through a world-class animation and audio series rooted in Bangsamoro’s cultural values. In classrooms equipped with devices, children have already watched the series an average of 2-3 times, and a total of 99,527 workbooks have been distributed, providing engaging hands-on activities to reinforce their learning.

The Bangsamoro Government, in partnership with the Australian Government, introduced Isla Maganda, the first program in Bangsamoro to integrate 21st-century skills and Social and Emotional Learning (SEL) into early education. Isla Maganda reaches children in remote and disadvantaged areas, helping them build the skills they need for lifelong learning. To date, 546 public elementary schools, learning centers, Indigenous Peoples Education (IPED) implementing schools, Special Education (SPED) Centers, and madaris (Islamic schools) across six provinces have benefited from this initiative.

To strengthen teachers’ capacities and address learning gaps, 2,622 teachers have been trained and provided with the animated series’ teacher’s guide and children’s workbooks.

Low literacy rates have persistently challenged the Bangsamoro region, driven by barriers in access, quality, and inclusion, leading to widespread disparities. The region has the lowest literacy rates among 17 regions in the Philippines, and according to the Ministry of Basic, Higher, and Technical Education’s (MBHTE) 2021 Activity Baseline Results, most Grades 1 to 3 students perform below expected standards.

Isla Maganda aims to bridge this gap by delivering engaging, culturally relevant learning through animation and audio storytelling. This 20-episode series for Kindergarten to Grade 3 (K-3) learners strengthens literacy, numeracy, and peace education, while embedding core Bangsamoro values such as respect, honesty, and empathy. Developed over four years, it is a collaborative effort uniting government partners, international production teams, local talents, and education experts.

MBHTE Minister Mohagher M. Iqbal affirmed the importance of Isla Maganda’s rollout to schools across BARMM, including remote and conflict-affected areas.

“Many young learners grow up in conflict-affected or geographically remote areas, where access to quality and inclusive education is inconsistent, having a detrimental impact on their learning and future opportunities.”

“I commend the efforts of MBHTE, the Australian Government, DepEd, and education leaders across the country for their dedication to delivering quality, inclusive education to children in BARMM through Isla Maganda. Now, more young learners will gain the essential skills they need to excel in their learning, empowering children, strengthening communities, and building a future of peace and prosperity for our region.”

The Australian Embassy worked closely with MBHTE to provide technical assistance in developing Isla Maganda materials, ensuring they are tailored to the Bangsamoro context and designing teacher training programs to support their seamless integration into classrooms.

Each episode of Isla Maganda, part of the 21st Century Skills and Social and Emotional Learning (SEL) curriculum, is accompanied by lesson plans for teachers provided by MBHTE, ensuring its effective integration into the broader education curriculum across BARMM.

Ma. Socorro Tabuga, a teacher at Lapok Elementary School in Shariff Aguak, Maguindanao, was among the first to introduce Isla Maganda to her Kindergarten students in February. After completing a three-day master training course on using Isla Maganda classroom materials and facilitating discussions on key concepts, she was eager to see how her students would react.

“Isla Maganda is helping my students develop important skills like empathy, self-control, and cooperation. Since introducing the series, I've noticed a positive change in the way they interact, and there’s less fighting. They identify with the characters they like and adopt their traits, which has led to better interaction, teamwork, and problem solving,” she shared.

Isla Maganda is also accessible to everyone through its dedicated YouTube channel (www.youtube.com/@IslaMaganda), enabling more children, even those outside the region, to engage with the series, develop foundational skills, and build a pathway to academic success and contribute to lasting peace.

Alsons Dev Receives Distinctions from BPI, Pag-IBIG, and the City Government of Davao

Alsons Development and Investment Corporation (Alsons Dev) has been recognized by three major institutions for its significant contributions to housing development and tourism. The company received distinctions from the Bank of the Philippine Islands (BPI), the Pag-IBIG Fund Stakeholders’ Accomplishment Report (StAR) Awards, and the City Government of Davao’s PASIDUNGOG: Garbo sa Dabaw 2025 awards.

Recognized for Excellence in Housing and Community Development

At the BPI Awards held on March 18, 2025, at the National Museum of Natural History, Alsons Dev received multiple distinctions for its housing loan performance—primarily driven by its mid-cost housing brand Nurtura. The company was named the Top 4 Local Developer in Title Delivery and Top 7 Local Developer in Production, as well as top recognitions for two new categories: Top Local Developer in Loan Portfolio Quality and Top Local Developer in Market Share.

Having been a consistent awardee at the BPI Awards since 2020, these new honors further highlight the company’s dedication to customer-centric service and commitment to compliance and operational excellence in housing delivery.

Complementing its private-sector distinction, Alsons Dev was also honored by a national government entity. On March 14, at the Pag-IBIG Fund Stakeholders’ Accomplishment Report (Pag-IBIG StAR) Awards held at SMX Convention Center Davao, the company received the Special Award for the Highest Number of Socialized Units Taken Out in the Mindanao region. This recognition was driven by Molave Homes, its socialized housing project in Alabel, Sarangani. The award affirms Alsons Dev’s support for accessible homeownership and its strong coordination with Pag-IBIG Fund in serving the housing needs of Filipinos.

“These recognitions from both private and government institutions reinforce our purpose: to make quality housing more accessible to Filipino families through well-planned communities, reliable service, and a deep commitment to our core values of excellence and customer-centricity. We are grateful for the trust of our partners and proud of the teams that consistently embody these values to deliver outstanding results,” said Miguel Rene A. Dominguez, President and CEO of Alsons Dev.

Rounding out the honors, Alsons Dev was recognized at the Pasidungog 2025: Garbo sa Dabaw awarding ceremony on March 13. Poblacion Market Central was awarded under the Tourism category for its role in promoting Mindanaoan heritage and supporting local enterprises.

“We take pride in creating spaces that celebrate Mindanaoan heritage while fostering vibrant communities. This recognition reaffirms our mission to support local enterprises and contribute to Davao City’s sustainable growth,” Miguel Dominguez added.

A Testament to Alsons Dev’s Commitment to Inclusive Growth

The recognitions from BPI, Pag-IBIG Fund, and the City Government of Davao collectively underscore Alsons Dev’s broad contributions—from expanding access to quality housing to driving local economic development. As a homegrown developer, Alsons Dev remains committed to creating lasting value through thoughtfully developed communities that support both families and the cities they live in.

By highlighting the achievements of women in tech, GCash is helping inspire the next generation of women leaders to pursue careers in technology and drive innovation forward

GCash, the Philippines’ leading finance superapp and cashless ecosystem, hosted She Can 2025 to recognize the leadership, resilience, and influence of its female employees and their significant contributions beyond their job titles. In acknowledging the valuable contributions of women in tech, GCash is setting a powerful example of how to make a difference in the world of innovation through diversity and inclusion.

She Can 2025 went beyond a simple awards ceremony, honoring women for their workplace contributions, resilience, and community impact. The initiative began with an open call for nominations, gathering 78 inspiring stories of women colleagues who lead by example, uplift others, and overcome challenges. From these, 12 honorees were selected across She Can Lead, She Can Inspire, and She Can Conquer, each showcasing unique strengths and unwavering perseverance.

At the heart of the celebration was the She Can Empowerment Forum, where noted journalists Ces Drilon, Bernadette Sembrano, and Jacque Manabat shared their personal experiences and insights about taking charge and breaking barriers. Manabat, a former ABS-CBN reporter, delivered a powerful message: "Iba ang lakas ng babae (The strength of women is unique). We don't let our scars define us but rather nurture those scars to make a difference, make an impact, and use our skills for good.” She encouraged women to step outside their comfort zones as a path to growth and self-discovery.

Martha Sazon, President and CEO of Mynt, the holding company of GCash, further amplified this message, emphasizing the company’s commitment to women empowerment: “At GCash, we don’t just celebrate women—we invest in their success. Women are leaders, innovators, and change-makers, and their resilience drives not just our company but entire communities forward. Through our initiatives, we are creating an ecosystem where women have the tools to thrive in and beyond their careers. When women rise, we all rise.”

The initiative's honorees were presented with unique plaques, symbolizing their light and strength, as they shared their journeys and reflections. The efforts of GCash to empower women extend well beyond the “She Can” initiative. Women comprise 47% of GCash’s workforce and hold 49% of leadership positions, far surpassing the industry average. The company also partnered with Connected Women in 2023 to provide STEM skills training, enabling Filipino women to thrive in the evolving digital economy.

“She Can 2025” affirms the commitment of GCash to celebrate and empower women in tech. By honoring their innovation, leadership, and resilience, GCash inspires future generations of women to break barriers, drive advancements, and create transformative impacts in the tech industry and beyond.

Bossjob UP Fair 2025

In a vibrant blend of music, youth, and meaningful advocacy, Bossjob, the Philippines’ leading AI-powered, chat-first recruitment platform, joined this year’s UP Fair 2025 not as a career expo participant—but as a lifestyle ally, brand champion, and changemaker.

Held from April 2 to 5, 2025, at the University of the Philippines - Diliman, UP Fair is one of the country’s biggest university-led events, with over 50,000 attendees across four days. For Bossjob, the opportunity to immerse in this energetic, cause-driven environment signaled more than a traditional brand activation—it was a statement of intent: to meet the next generation of talents where they are, with tools and support they can actually use.

A Career Platform That Doesn’t Wait for the Career Fair

Bossjob’s participation marked its first foray into a non-career-focused youth event, breaking the mold of traditional job portals. Instead of limiting its presence to job fairs or corporate-led activations, Bossjob brought its advocacy for access and equity in hiring straight to a creative, youth-centered platform.

Through an interactive booth experience that offered free ice cream, cotton candy, and exclusive giveaways, Bossjob attracted over 2,000 attendees eager to engage with the platform. New users were encouraged to download the app, like the Facebook page, register their profiles, and explore its innovative features—all while enjoying a sweet treat and a welcoming space to talk careers.

A Platform for Everyone: From Blue-Collar to “Open Collar” Careers

Visitors explored Bossjob’s tech-forward features, including:

● Direct to Chat with Recruiters – a feature that puts job seekers in immediate contact with hiring managers

● AI Resume Analysis – smart feedback to help users improve their resumes

● AI CV & AI Photo Generator – creative tools that help users present themselves more confidently and professionally

The app’s inclusive approach—designed for ALL—was fully on display. Bossjob reinforced its commitment to providing job seekers with free, easy-to-use, and meaningful tech to land the roles they deserve.

Advocacy in Action: Aligning with the UP Fair’s Daily Themes

True to the spirit of UP Fair, Bossjob integrated its mission with the event’s daily advocacies:

● Day 1 – Kalye Tunes (Urban Poor): Advocating for equal job opportunities for underserved sectors

● Day 2 – Quests (Women & Gender): Championing inclusive hiring and gender equity in the workplace

● Day 3 – Elements (Peasants): Providing access to dignified work for all

● Day 4 – REV Music Festival (National Minorities): Exploring partnerships to extend recruitment access to marginalized groups

● Overall Fair Theme – Education: Reinforcing Bossjob’s commitment to supporting students as they transition from campus to career

“UP Fair was the perfect space to engage young people not just as job seekers but as future leaders, creatives, and community-builders,” said Ibon Ma. Laya Toledo, Marketing Director of Bossjob PH. “We weren’t there just to promote the Bossjob platform and its services. We were there to champion career accessibility, digital empowerment, and real options for real people.”

Building Careers with Culture and Community

Beyond downloads and giveaways, Bossjob’s presence was about building a meaningful relationship with the country’s next workforce. By planting its flag at UP Fair 2025, Bossjob isn’t just offering a faster way to find a job—it’s offering a fresh, inclusive, tech-enabled way to build a career.

As Bossjob continues to scale its presence nationwide, it remains focused on one goal: to be the recruitment platform that makes job hunting smarter, more human, and more hopeful.

Emirates’ Aircrafted KIDS initiative reaches 700 young students across Asia

Saturday, April 19, 2025

Emirates donated handmade children’s backpacks made from upcycled aircraft interiors to children in India, Bangladesh, and Pakistan

Supporting children’s education and making meaningful connections within the communities it serves, Emirates has engaged with several educational entities across Asia; to provide 700 handmade schoolbags and essential stationery supplies directly to young students. Each schoolbag is a piece of history—a limited-edition bag from Emirates’ Aircrafted range, made from the fabrics and parts of Emirates’ iconic aircraft. With 1300 bags already distributed across Africa, the Asia Aircrafted KIDS delivery is part of a larger initiative by Emirates to repurpose and upcycle materials for the benefit of children across the globe.

Aircrafted Kids by Emirates goes to Asia

In India, Emirates collaborated with Smile Foundation India, a respected institution that provides education, healthcare, and livelihood programs to children aged between 6-14 years. In Bangladesh, Emirates partnered with Kanan, Thikana (Shelter Home), and Ahsania Mission Shishu Nagari – three sister entities across Dhaka that provide shelter for women and children, and a safe place to nurture education and wellbeing. In Pakistan, Emirates worked with SOS Children’s Villages, a renowned entity which serves local communities by creating a nurturing and inspirational space for financially disadvantaged youths to continue their education. In the Philippines, Emirates has been a long-time partner of Virlanie Foundation, a non-profit organization that aims to help disadvantaged children reach their full potential and reintegrate them into society. Through the Emirates Airline Foundation, Emirates has a long history of supporting children’s welfare programs, and Aircrafted Kids is an extension of this work.

Emirates has a local office in India, Bangladesh, Pakistan, so each entity was visited by the Emirates representatives who helped pack the bags and distribute them and were eager to connect with the organizations who do such important work in the community. Inside the bags, Emirates provided school supplies such as stationary, calculators and essentials, as well as a variety of books that can be shared throughout schools.

The next stop on the Aircrafted Kids schoolbags trail is Egypt, with more destinations in the MENA region to follow.

The making of Aircrafted Kids schoolbags

As part of an environmental strategy that includes responsible consumption, Emirates committed to repurposing more than 50,000 kilograms of materials, from 205 aircraft that are undergoing a cabin interior refit and refresh. The team at Emirates Engineering brainstormed a myriad of ways in which the old materials could be reused and upcycled and settled on a range of sturdy backpacks. The high-quality seat fabric of Emirates Economy Class seats is 95% wool and 5% nylon, a flat weave structure sourced from Germany and Ireland which is ideal for upcycling due to its durability and non-flammable nature.

In a dedicated workshop at Emirates, a team of 14 Engineering Maintenance Assistants creatively designed and tailored a whole range of backpacks for children of different ages. The Emirates Corporate Communications, Marketing & Brand team then identified charitable entities, schools and foundations, where the bags could be distributed for most impact, communicating with the NGOs on what their preferences would be. The teams spent weeks researching styles, ensuring the bags were safe and comfortable for children to use. Across all the bag designs, the fabrics were professionally laundered, then further deep cleaned by hand, leather-conditioned for the accents, and thoroughly disinfected before being sewn into unique pieces. Brand new lining was added to the bags, along with functional zippers and adjustable straps, before being packed into specially branded ‘Aircrafted Kids’ boxes and shipped to their final destinations.

With the transport and logistics fully supported by Emirates’ SkyCargo teams, and dnata Logistics across the continents – Aircrafted Kids by Emirates connected the community of employees within Emirates to achieve a meaningful goal.

Aircrafted by Emirates Limited Edition Luggage for sale

Emirates fans can also get involved in this ‘connecting communities’ initiative, by purchasing limited edition luggage in the coming months, as the Aircrafted by Emirates retail range prepares to launch a second phase of the capsule collection. Like the first collection, which sold out in a matter of days - proceeds after costs are donated to Emirates Airline Foundation supporting humanitarian projects around the world. Customers and fans can also donate to Emirates Airline Foundation any time, and help children in need.

Sunday, April 13, 2025

Insular Foundation, InLife’s corporate social responsibility arm, recently awarded college scholarship grants to 26 first-year students taking up Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) courses.

The Foundation awarded Gold Eagle College Scholarship Grants to 11 students from the University of the Philippines Diliman (UPD); and 15 students from other partner schools, namely, Aurora State College of Science and Technology, Benguet State University, Bohol Island State University, Central Mindanao University, and Davao Oriental State University. The scholarship benefits include stipend, transportation and book allowance.

During the scholars’ orientation program, Insular Foundation Executive Director Ana Soriano expressed optimism that the scholarship grant will help the students achieve their dreams and live better lives.

“The reason why we continue the Insular Foundation Gold Eagle College Scholarship Grant every year is to be able to help students like you reach your personal dreams, with the hope that you will use your acquired knowledge and skills to make life better. When you graduate, you will be able to help your family enjoy a more comfortable life. When you become serious professionals like a Civil Engineer, Chemical Engineer, Mathematicians, Statisticians, and other fields in the sciences, your impact will expand in the bigger community,” she said.

Speaking on behalf of the scholars, UPD student Blessilyn Ramos thanked the Foundation for easing their financial burden and empowering them with the gift of education. “As Gold Eagle Scholars, we are immensely grateful for the privilege of accessing quality education, opportunities for professional growth, and a supportive community. Your kindness and trust in our potential give profound meaning to our academic journey—it motivates us to instill discipline in ourselves, persevere despite countless challenges, and become more conscious of the impact we can create,” she said.

Bohol Island State University student Charity Joy Roma said the scholarship grant motivates her to study harder and inspires her to give back to others someday. “The scholarship has provided me the means to focus on my studies and strive toward my dreams. More importantly, it has reminded me of the power of community and generosity in transforming lives. To the Insular Foundation, thank you for your unwavering dedication to education and empowerment,” she said.

Since the Gold Eagle College Scholarship Program’s relaunch in 2008, Insular Foundation has helped 134 students finish their college education.

Empowered Women, Empowering Generations: ‘Ladies for a Cause’ Launches to Champion Maternal and Child Health

A powerful movement dedicated to improving the health and wellbeing of mothers and children took center stage at The Manila Hotel with the official launch of Ladies for a Cause. Composed of strong, passionate, and driven women from various sectors, the initiative aims to make a lasting impact on maternal and child health, particularly during the critical first 1,000 days of life—from pregnancy to a child’s second birthday.

Dr. Gwen Pang, Convenor of Ladies for a Cause, who is also the Secretary General of the Philippine Red Cross, emphasized the significance of collective action, stating:

“When women come together, we don’t just spark change—we build movements that transform lives. ‘Ladies for a Cause’ is more than just a group; it is a force for good, ensuring that no mother or child is left behind in the fight for health, dignity, and a better future.”

Why Women? Why This Movement?

Women are the heart of every home and the backbone of every community. They are natural caregivers, nurturers, and decision-makers who intimately understand the needs of families. Their ability to empathize, multitask, and find solutions uniquely positions them to address the challenges of maternal and child health.

“Women don’t just witness the struggles of mothers and children—they live them, understand them, and know how to solve them. When women take action, they don’t work alone; they mobilize, they inspire, and they create lasting change. This is why ‘Ladies for a Cause’ is a movement led by women—because when women lead with purpose, entire generations benefit,” Dr. Pang added.

The launch was further strengthened by the support of Attorney Joey Lina, President of The Manila Hotel and Convenor of the Children’s First 1,000 Days Coalition, who underscored the importance of this advocacy:

“A nation’s future is shaped in the womb. By prioritizing maternal and child health, we are investing in stronger families, healthier communities, and a more resilient Philippines. This movement is a beacon of hope, proving that when women lead with purpose, the impact is boundless.”

The event gathered influential women leaders from government, business, media, and civil society, all committed to driving change and championing the health and well-being of mothers and children. The initiative will focus on advocacy, education, and direct community interventions to ensure that every child gets the healthiest possible start in life.

As Ladies for a Cause takes its first step, it calls on more women to stand together, take action, and be part of a movement that will leave an indelible mark on future generations.
